Beautiful Cylinder Beach, North Stradbroke Island Plenty of things to see when diving at North Straddie See and hear the pounding surf on the eastern side of the island North Stradbroke Island, or "Straddie" as it’s known to locals, is one of the world’s largest sand islands and it’s right on Brisbane’s doorstep.

Scenic walks

North Gorge Walk
The North Gorge is located at Point Lookout is the place Captain Cook first mapped in 1770 naming the island. A walk around this headland is must during your stay, being a perfect vantage point in which to view dolphins, turtles, and rays.

From June to November the North Gorge also offers some of the best land based viewing of the Humpback whale migration.

Blue lake Walk
The Blue Lake Walk is approximately 2kms long and takes in much of the fauna and flora surrounding the world renowned Blue Lake. Enjoy a refreshing dip in the Lake after this walk. 4WD access to the lake is also available. For more about Blue lake www.epa.qld.gov.au

Historical Walk
Pick up a map from the Tourist Information center at Dunwich and take a self-guided walk around some of the historical points of interest, including; the cemetery, shipwrecks and buildings.

Other options

Swimming
beach2Straddie offers a host of locations in which to swim. Dunwich has several quiet beaches on the bay, as well as providing access roads to Brown Lake and Blue Lake.

Amity Point has a camp-side swimming enclosure as well as beach front on the bay with spectacular views of Moreton Island. Halfway between Amity Point and Point Lookout is Flinders Beach, where the bay meets the Ocean. This is perfect for swimming, fishing and surfing.

Point Lookout offers some of the best surf beaches in the world. Several of these are patrolled during school vacations by the Surf Lifesavers. Surfing at Point Lookout is a must for any serious surfer and you may spot local pro surfer Bede Durbidge out on the waves.

4WD Tours
Many companies now offer 4WD tours of the island and beaches ranging in price and activities provided. For those who don't own a 4WD this may offer the best way to see parts of the island otherwise inaccessible by car.
